We offer some of the best Jeep and raft packages in the area and use the highest quality equipment. When you book with Durango Rivertrippers, you get admittance to exclusive areas no other company can access, like our private 25-foot waterfall situated on an old mining claim from the early 1900s. Our Jeep trail tours are the best in the area! Board our open-air vehicle and head into the “crown jewel” of the San Juan Mountains. (A Jeep Wrangler may be used instead if needed.)

Explore the majestic La Plata Mountains and Canyon near Durango, Colorado at some of the canyon’s most scenic and beautiful waterfalls. Then hit the river for another splash of adventure. This is a mild and scenic tour that is fun for the entire family. 

About the tour: This is a great option for folks who do not want to do the longer half-day tour. This trip showcases 3 unique waterfalls, including our private waterfall, for photo opportunities. The exclusive waterfall stop is on private property accessible only to Durango Rivertrippers & Adventure Tours. We take you up close to a stunning 25-30 foot waterfall with old mining structures scattered around the base. The tour culminates at a stop 10,000 feet above sea level to take in the views. This is an amazing adventure for the entire family. All ages are welcome on this trip, however, car seats are not provided. NOTE: This tour does not go up to the top of Kennebec Pass. 

The mouth of the canyon is a 20-minute ride away on the highway in our open-air vehicle (or Jeep Wrangler). Once there, we will start our tour into the canyon. It can get windy, so please bring a jacket if you chill easily. We carry extra jackets and blankets – just ask! This is a Jeep tour, and as we like to say, it’s bumpy, dirty, bouncy, fun, and exciting! If you are looking for a gentler, easy ride, try the Custom Safari Jeep Tour. 

After your thrilling 4×4 trip, we will return to our location with time to take a break and grab some food before heading out on your rafting trip. Finish your afternoon on the Animas River with whitewater rafting. The Lower Animas River runs through the heart of Durango, Colorado. Enjoy the scenery as your experienced guide navigates you down the river and through the smelter whitewater park with class I-III rapids.

Experience the La Plata Canyon tour also known as “Kennebec Pass”. This tour travels up to 12,000 feet at or near the tree line. Get a bird’s eye view of the amazing canyon geology carved by ancient glaciers, leaving behind the beautiful canyon. Wildlife opportunities abound – we will get the chance to see wildlife such as deer, bears, marmots, birds, elk, and maybe even the elusive mountain lion – all of which have been spotted on our tours. La Plata Canyon is 20 minutes west of Durango, Colorado, and has a history of old Ghost Towns and plenty of old mines to chat about along the way. An absolute bucket list item!
